OSP Trials Resume After Supreme Court Ruling on Office’s Constitutional Mandate
Trials in cases being prosecuted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) have resumed following a Supreme Court decision affirming the constitutional mandate of the Office.
Proceedings had been halted since April 2026 after a High Court ruling raised questions about the OSP’s authority to prosecute.
With the Supreme Court’s decision now clearing the legal uncertainty, the OSP has announced new court dates for seven ongoing prosecutions.
In a series of updates shared on August 10, 2026, the Office outlined the cases scheduled to return to court in the coming months.
The first to be heard is The Republic v. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid & 7 Ors on August 11, 2026.
The accused include former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Mustapha Abdul-Hamid; former UPPF Coordinator and MD of Propnest Ltd., Kel Logistics Ltd. and Kings Energy Ltd., Jacob Kwamina Amuah; NPA staff member Wendy Newman; CEOs Bright Bediako-Mensah and Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah; and three companies — Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited, and Kings Energy Limited.
On August 27, 2026, two cases are set. The Republic v. Kenneth Ofori-Atta & 7 Ors involves former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, Ernest Darko Akore, who served as chef de cabinet to Ofori-Atta, former GRA Commissioners-General Emmanuel Kofi Nti and Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner of Customs Isaac Crentsil, Jaman South MP and former GRA Commissioner Col. Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd), CEO of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited Evans Adusei, and SML itself.
Also on August 27, The Republic v. Sumaila Abdul-Rahman & 3 Ors will be heard. The accused are former NDA CEO Sumaila Abdul-Rahman, Deputy CEO (Operations) Stephen Yir-Eru Engmen, Deputy CEO (Finance & Admin) Patrick Seidu, and Chief Executive of A&QS Consortium Ltd Andrew Kuundaari.
Other cases scheduled include The Republic v. Issah Seidu & 3 Ors on October 23, 2026, involving Issah Seidu, John Abban, and Peter Archibold Hyde; The Republic v. Adjenim Boateng Adjei on October 13, 2026, former Chief Executive of the Public Procurement Authority; Republic v. Ibrahim Kofi Sessah & Gloria Acquah on October 27, 2026; and The Republic v. Charles Cromwell Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue & 2 Ors on 26 October 2026.
The latter involves former Secretary to the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining Charles Bissue, former GalamStop Systems Manager Raphael Mensah, and former IMCIM Project Coordinator Dr Naa Dedei Tagoe.
