2025 AFCONQ: Inaki, Semenyo, 6 Others Decline Call-up
Eight Black Stars players have declined their call up for the last round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Almost all of them are said to have sustained injuries.
They are Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Jonas Adjetey, Tariq Lamptey, Jerome Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Osman and Joseph Painstil.
In a press statement, the FA announced Inaki is nursing a Hamstring injury picked up on November 7.
Tariq Lamptey on the other hand has a calf discomfort that aggravated last week and currently undergoing rehabilitation with his club while Jonas suffered a relapse in his last League game on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from an injury he was recovering from.
For Jerome, the FA said a chronic back pain which got worse during a Super Lig game against Besiktas on Sunday, November 10 was the reason. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation with his club.
Antoine Semenyo has an injury to the patella tendon due to overload of games.
It added, “The Club medical team thought it wise to use the break to refer him to a tendon specialist to prevent worsening of the injury.”
Meanwhile, Djiku has an aggravated existing hamstring injury that got him substituted in their last game on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Ibrahim Osman for his part is said to have picked up a hamstring injury in his last outing for his club which got him substituted at half time.
Last but not least is Joseph Painstil who has withdrawn citing personal reasons.
Replacements for these players are yet to be named.
Ghana will face Angola on November 15 before their last game against Niger on November 18.
