2025 AFCONQ: Ghana’s Qualification Get Slimmer after Sudan Loss
Ghana’s chance of qualifying for the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament hangs on a thread following their defeat to Sudan in Matchday four.
The team has two more games to decide their fate in the 2025 tournament with all other things being equal.
After they drew in the first leg of the game at the Accra Sports Stadium in Accra, the Black Stars knew they had no other choice than to win in the second header as it proved crucial to their qualification.
However, the team posed little threat to the Falcons of Jedian when they faced off at the Benina Martys Stadium in Libya on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite dominating in ball possession little came out of it as they missed scarce opportunities. Sudan proved to be the better side creating a lot of chances and finally had their efforts paying off.
They scored two goals within the space of three minutes in the second half thanks to Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud Mohamed and Mohamed Addelrahman.
This result keeps the Black Stars in the third spot on the Group F table with two points. They are behind leaders Angola (who hold 12 points) and then seven-point-wielding Sudan. Meanwhile, Niger sits in the base with a point they got from facing Black Stars.
Ghana’s next game will be against Angola away from home. Anything short of victory will dash hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
If Ghana fail to qualify, it will go down in history as the first in 20 years.
Meanwhile, fans are calling for the dissolution of the current Black Stars team.
Some took to X, formerly Twitter to pour out their frustration.
“The worst #BlackStars team ever in the history!!! Plus wicked government herh 🤦♂️🤦😭😭😭😭😂 we dey bl3 🤦♂️🤦.”
“Don’t blame anybody! Just dissolve team !!! Ahhh,” cried one X user.
“Don’t blame Kudus. This burden of Captaincy has nothing to do with his performance. The team lacked cohesion, resilience and effective communication. It appeared the team was in ‘justify mode’ individuals pressing to be scouted,” commented another.
