2024 Elections: We Have a Reputation to Maintain- Akufo-Addo
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reminded Ghanaians of their enviable record in democracy and elections, urging same to earnestly guard it in the polls today, December 7, 2024.
Addressing the country on the eve of the election, the 80-year-old who is exiting office expressed his pride in the country’s record in the democratic electoral process and asserted that it was the pride of all Ghanaians.
“That surely is a sign of a nation that attained maturity and self-confidence and should give us reasons to be proud. It gives me great personal satisfaction to be part of those who fought for us to achieve this right but we should never forget that the flame of freedom needs to be protected and constantly refilled. This will be the ninth time successive time we shall be discharging this sacred civic duty of voting to choose our leaders since the onset of the Fourth Republic 32 years ago.”
He pleaded with all Ghanaians to help guard the hard-earned reputation.
“Please remember that we have a reputation to maintain as a nation of peaceful elections and to cement our ranking as a developed democracy. Each one of us should go out and do his or her duty to ensure a peaceful and prosperous Ghana and vote freely for your preferred candidate. Do this in peace and dignity. It is an individual and collective responsibility. Go and vote. You owe it to Ghana and to yourself.”
Meanwhile, the President expressed confidence in the EC and security officials to superintend over peaceful and transparent elections.
