2023 AFCON: Senegal’s Diatta Banned And Fined By CAF
Senegalese midfielder Krépin Diatta has been slapped with a ban and fine following investigations into his rants and accusations against the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
The AS Monaco player accused CAF of corruption while exiting the stadium through the mixed zone after Senegal’s 5-4 penalties loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the Round of 16.
He is quoted as saying, “You’ve killed us, you’re corrupt! Keep your African Cup! You go and consult VAR to give them a penalty, but a guy (Sarr) runs 40 metres, overlaps breaks into the box and you can’t go and look at the VAR.
“I’m sorry, but it’s ridiculous. I’m really sorry, but they’ve killed our competition there.”
An investigation was instituted into his conduct immediately by the CAF who subsequently found him guilty after a fair hearing.
The 24-year-old has thus been handed a four-match suspension plus a fine of USD 16,329.88.
The defending Champions were knocked out of the tournament by the hosts who would later become the winners.
After their 1:1 draw remained in extra time, the game proceeded into a penalty shootout where Aliou Cisse’s side fell short.
