20% of NPP-aligned Voters Voted For Mahama- Mussa Dankwa
The Executive Director of Research firm Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwa says 20% of voters who align with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) defied their loyalty and voted in favour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Presidential polls.
Citing his firm’s recent exit polls, he challenged the NPP’s insistence that they lost due to voter apathy.
“NPP still claims they lost the election because their voters did not come out to vote. Today, we present evidence from the exit poll that suggests otherwise as more than 20% of NPP voters who turned on the election day in 11 out of 16 regions voted for John Mahama,” he put forth in a Facebook post.
According to his data, the region with the highest defection from the NPP to the NDC was Savannah, with 50%, followed by Western North at 43%, Bono at 38%, Central at 38%, Volta at 32%, Ahafo at 30%, Upper East at 23%, and Eastern at 20%.
In the Greater Accra Region, the defection rate was 20%, followed by Upper West at 20%, Western at 20%, Bono East at 9%, North East at 9%, Oti at 8%, and Ashanti at 5%.
He furthered, “Interestingly, the Eastern Region, one of the key strongholds of the NPP is top 8 in terms of ranking. Ashanti Region in terms of percentage is relatively low, but since over 25% of NPP voters throughout the country are in the Ashanti Region, in terms of absolute number, this will be huge and more devastating than the combined effect of the defection of several smaller regions.”
The NPP lost the Presidential election to the NDC in the 2024 elections on December 7.
