17 Students in Court after Wa SHS SRC Week Celebration Violence

Seventeen suspects are standing trial after their alleged involvement in a violent attack on Wa Senior High School (The Great WASEC) during the latter’s SRC Week Celebration on January 28, 2026.

The suspects are students from another school.

This was confirmed by the Ghana Police Service following a visit to the Great WASEC by the Upper West Regional Police Command led by DCOP Francis Yiribaare on Monday, February 16, 2026.

The visit was to engage students and staff of Wa Senior High School to reinforce security, discipline, and peaceful coexistence within the school community.

Addressing approximately 2,000 students and staff, DCOP Yiribaare reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding educational institutions across the Region.

He stressed that schools must remain centres of learning, character formation, and leadership—not arenas for violence, indiscipline, or criminal activity.

He cautioned students against misconduct, vandalism, and the use or trafficking of illicit substances, emphasising that criminal behaviour at a young age can have lasting consequences on future academic and career prospects.

The Headmaster, Alhaji Iddrisu Thirdman, expressed appreciation for the swift police intervention and pledged the school’s continued cooperation in maintaining discipline and lawful conduct.
