17 Royals Of Tafo Due For Burial After 17 Years At Morgue

Seventeen dead bodies of the Agona Royal Family of Old Tafo will be buried on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, after almost two decades at the morgue.

The 17 died between 2005 and 2020.

They remained at the morgue due to litigation over the right of burial at the Tafo Royal Mausoleum.

It all began in 2005 when the first among the 17 dead royals’ burial was suspended by Tafohene Nana Agyen Frimpong II following the evocation of the Great Oath of Asantehene that prevented the chief from burying the deceased at the Tafo Royal Cemetery.

Customarily, the Chief should have nullified the oath, however, he didn’t, it was reported.

The remains of the 17 were kept at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the Old Tafo Hospital and the KNUST Hospital mortuaries.

In 2018, Nana Adwoa Mansa, an aggrieved member of the Royal family whose mother is among the deceased told Daily Graphic, “Eventually, we resolved that the chief must go and reply the oath at the Asantehene’s Palace to enable us to have access to bury the corpses in the mausoleum.”

Earlier this year, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ruled on the case and ordered the 17 to be buried at the Royal Mausoleum.

Their funeral ceremony will be held at the Tafo Community Centre on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
