Ex-Kotoko Coach Karim Zito Says Pressure at Kotoko Affected his Health

Former Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito has revealed the real reason behind his unexpected departure from the club, disclosing that a medical warning from his doctor convinced him to step aside.
The veteran trainer resigned weeks ago, shortly after Kotoko’s FA Cup exit on penalties.
Zito, who has since joined the technical team of FC AshantiGold O4, explained that the pressure and workload at Kotoko had silently affected his health. He admitted he never noticed the signs until he went for a post-resignation check-up.
According to him, the doctor’s assessment showed he was medically unfit, a discovery that came as a shock. He noted that the intensity of the Kotoko job left him constantly isolated, overwhelmed, and far from his family.
“Seeing my doctor shortly after leaving Kotoko, he told me I was fortunate for the timely check-up; he noticed I was medically unfit, though I hadn’t realised while working,” Zito said. “I was living, eating, and talking alone; consumed by the Kotoko job. I handled the pressure all by myself. I only managed to see my family on five occasions.”
Zito now serves as Technical Director of Division One side FC AshantiGold O4, where he is expected to bring his vast experience and leadership to help the club push for promotion to the Ghana Premier League.
