13 out of 24 Cleared to Contest for Presidency

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has cleared 13 candidates to contest in the upcoming Presidential Election.

They were among 24 candidates who successfully filed their nomination before the deadline.

Four of them are independent candidates.

They were selected after a thorough examination of the Nomination Forms submitted by the Candidates to ensure conformity with requirements as set out in law, the EC said in a press statement on Friday, September 20.

The thirteen include Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen an Independent Candidate, Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement, Daniel Augustus Lartey Jnr of the Great Consolidated Popular Party and George Twum-Barima-Adu as an Independent Candidate.

The rest are Nana Kwame Bediako as an Independent Candidate, Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party, Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress, Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party and Kofi Koranteng as an Independent Candidate.

Independent candidates who failed to make it include Samuel Apea-Danquah, Desmond Abrefah, Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr Samuel Sampong Ankrah and Nii Amu Darko.

Meanwhile, political parties candidates including Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention, and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party also did not sail through.
