WhatsApp Rolls Out Disappearing Message Option

Messenger application, WhatsApp, has added a new feature to its already existing numerous features.

The ephemeral feature enables users to make messages disappear after some time from a chat.

This was announced in a Facebook post by its owner, Mark Zuckerberg on December 5, 2021.

With the new option, users will have the opportunity of selecting how long they want a message to hang on within a chat, either for 24 hours, 7 or 90 days.

The messages will disappear after a certain time if either of the participating members in a conversation has enabled the ephemerality option. WhatsApp is also rolling out this option to all group messages, and giving this choice at the time of the group’s creation itself, Zafir Khan, head of Consumer Product at WhatsApp said in an interview with TechCrunch.

The feature was rolled out the same day it was announced.

Zuckerberg believes not all messages need to stick around forever.

He posted, “We’re rolling out a new disappearing messages option on WhatsApp today so you’ll be able to make all new chats disappear by default after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Not all messages need to stick around forever.”
