We Are Not Calling Off Strike; We’re Not Striking Because Of COLA – USSA

Universities Senior Staff Association joined the four teacher unions on strike last Wednesday 13 July, 2022 for couple of reasons including the Cost of Living Allowance.

The association has disclosed that it is not calling off the strike as the teacher unions have done despite an agreement of 15% COLA to be paid by the government to all public sector workers.

General Secretary of the Association, Hector Owoahene-Acheampong, said senior staffs in the public universities are unfairly treated, and the time is now to have their demands met.

According to him, they are also unhappy that accrued interest on Tier 2 pension arrears has not been paid. He stated that members can receive a pension pay as low as GHC 400 and as much as GHC 600 which is not helping them at all.

The members are also worried about what they describe as university salary disparities and discrimination in payment of the allowances to some of the members while others suffer. For these reasons the Universities Senior Staff Association is reluctant in calling off the strike.
