We are Industrious; Asantehene Touts his People
The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has given an appealing yet veracious description of his people to the American Consul General in Ghana, Elliot Fertik, who paid a courtesy visit to him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
It was his first encounter with the people of Asanteman as he has been based in Accra since his appointment.
The US official says he arrived in Kumasi on June 20, 2024, and is about to explore the bustling city more to familiarize himself with it.
“I have heard much about the Asante people and about the Majesty of the Kingdom of Gold. I went to the Museum where I learned a lot about the history of the people and of struggles and ultimate triumph.”
In words, His Majesty touted Asantes as an industrious group of people with the ambition of self-employment.
He also highlighted their hospitability and embracing nature as well as some historical sites he could visit.
“The people are more hospitable and welcoming, very hard working. We believe in being self-employed and industrious. Originally, we were farmers into cocoa and timber. Unfortunately, the timber isn’t still there but cocoa abodes. We are into trade also. We are very industrious and self-employed, we are courageous and very determined and also very decisive in decision-making.”
H.E. Fertik used the opportunity he had with the King on Friday, June 21, 2024, to congratulate the Asantehene on his 25th Anniversary on the Golden Stool.
“You have reigned for 25 years. Congratulations. I wish you and the Asante people many more years of peace and prosperity here in Ghana.”
