Voters ID Replacement Starts Today
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has set aside 16 days to replace misplaced voters ID cards of Ghanaians across the country beginning today, May 30, 2024.
The exercise which is being done at a cost of GHC10 will end on June 14, 2024, a statement it released earlier this week said.
The payment will be done digitally through a designated short-code.
“Applicants are to provide the reference code to the District Officer to facilitate replacement of their cards,” the notice highlighted.
It comes days after the EC concluded the limited registration exercise across the country.
Payment
Applicants will make payment by following prompts from the short-code *222*1067#.
The input will require details including the amount and reference which should be fed with the applicant’s name.
At the end of the process, the applicant will receive an SMS confirming the success of the payment which will be presented to the EC officer at the District office for the card replacement.
Free for Dam Spillage Victims
The replacement will however be done at no cost to victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage, the EC earlier indicated.
“In solidarity with the victims and as a gesture of goodwill, the Commission is happy to announce that replacement of Voter ID Cards for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage will be free of charge.”
The Commission recognized that this will enable them exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections.
