UPSA Goes Ahead With John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor’s Induction As VC

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has inducted Prof John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor as the Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The ceremony carried on despite the legal suit filed by a private citizen against the University over Prof Mawutor’s legitimacy for the position.

He was sworn into office on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Kofi Ohene Konadu Auditorium.

In his address, Prof Mawutor pledged his commitment to developing the institution.

“We will work tiredly to ensure that students get the needed resources and support to reach their full potential. For our faculty and staff, it is your dedication and expertise which is the foundation of the university and so I look forward to working and supporting you to grow the fortunes of the university.

“As an institution, we pledge to work with the new government to achieve its objective. We also pledge to produce graduates with employable skills that will be relevant to the country.”

Legal Suit
According to a writ filed by Gomda Abdul-Aziz against the public University, the promotion is defective, invalid and unconstitutional as he did not satisfy the requirement of professorship needed to be a Vice-Chancellor.

He is seeking a declaration that the promotion of John Kwaku Mawutor to the rank of Associate Professor is unlawful as well as his appointment as Vice-Chancellor.
