Two Days To End Of SIM Registration
Ghanaians who have not yet registered their SIM cards have two more days to do so or risk having their SIMs deactivated.
After July 31, 2022, unregistered SIM users won’t be able to make calls, send text messages, or use the internet nor can they transact using Mobile Money services according to the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Ahead of the deadline which the Minister for Communication and Digitisation, Ursula Owusu Erkuful has reiterated that it won’t be extended again, the NCA issued a notice with the information, “register your SIM to stay connected”.
Concerns have been raised about the registration exercise, particularly with the use of the Ghana Card, the only acceptable identification card for registration.
Sections of the Ghanaian public have issues with the Ghana Card making it impossible for them to undergo the exercise.
Although calls have been trooping in for an extension of the exercise, it’s unclear that the Minister for communication will heed.
The registration exercise began on October 1, 2021, and was scheduled to end on March 31, 2022, but was extended to July 31, 2022.
According to the Communication and Digitisation Ministry, the extension was due to the fact that more than 7.5 million people did not yet have their Ghana Card.
