The Western Togoland Issues: Collins Owusu Amankwah Describes Their Actions As Baseless

Vice Chairman of Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Collins Owusu Amankwah, has described the action of the Western Togoland Secessionists as baseless.

According to the lawmaker, the Western ‘Togolanders’ have no basis following what they are expecting to achieve.

There has been unrest over a month in the Volta region by virtue of the agitations of some indigenes of the Western Togoland whose aim is to seek independence.

Western Togoland is an area in the Republic of Ghana. The area of Western Togoland is divided into five regions: Volta, Oti, Northern Region, North East Region and Upper East Region.

Reacting to what could exacerbate to become a war in Ghana on Opemsuo 104.7 FM morning show, Nkwantannanso, the Manhyia North Member of Parliament said, It is unfortunate the kind of nefarious agenda being exhibited by the Western Togoland Secessionists. Their actions boarders on criminality and can equate to the actions of armed robbers which must attract the full action of the laws of this country.

He continued that, “they have no basis of what they are agitating for and their actions are nothing short of the action of rebels. And there must be a tactical approach to arrest the situation.”

The Legislator further revealed that he has absolute trust in the security agencies to fully subdue the powers of the agitators.
“The security agencies have the capacities to crash the Western Togoland agitators. I believe in the security architecture of this country and there should be no cause for anybody to worry.

The so-called Western Togoland has been a member state of the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) since 2017.
The territory was established by Germany as the Togoland protectorate in 1884 however in 1914 during the First World War, Britain and France invaded the protectorate after the German defeat.
