The Five Million Tree Planting “Green Ghana” Project Exceeded Expectation

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has revealed that more than the target of five million seedlings were planted on Friday, 11th June, 2021 throughout the regions of Ghana.
The initiative was undertaken as way of restoring some of Ghana’s depleted forest.
The president, ministers of government, chiefs, high profiled authorities, celebrities, ministries, students and others joined in planting a target of five million seedlings.
Addressing the August House, Mr. Abu Jinapor said data is still being collated from all the regions and further described it as remarkable and historic.
“Even though planting figures are still being collated from the sixteen regions, provisional figures from the Forestry Commission clearly show that we exceeded the five million target.
“This is remarkable and historic. The demand for seedlings was overly subscribed. The ethusiasm of individuals and corporate institutions to plant trees was enormous”, he said.
According to him, several requests for seedlings are tripping in from people.
He was confident this will help in the country’s fight against climate change.
“This is a significant step to preserving our environment and ecosystems which will enable us make our modest contribution to our fight against climate change”, he noted.
