Suspension and counter-suspension in the PNC
Two key members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) – David Apasera and Moses Dani Baah, have been hit by the ‘suspension’ spree currently in vogue within the party.
It began with the suspension of the General Secretary, Janet Nabila following a National Executive Committee meeting on August 28, 2021, “championed” by the 2020 flagbearer, David Apasera, and the National Chairman of the party, Moses Dani Baah for alleged misconduct and incompetence.
Janet Nabila was not enthused with the decision saying that the two (Mr. Dani Baah and Mr. Apasera) pointed fingers at her because she tried to shed light on some ¢70,000 party fund the two had embezzled.
At a press conference on 7th August 2021, in Ashanti Region, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the PNC, Seidu Suleiman, said the National Executive Committee of the Party has declared the August meeting null and void and therefore announced that Janet Nabila was still at post.
He also announced the indefinite suspension of Mr. Dani Baah and Mr. Apasera over issues of fund embezzlement which was brought to the committee by Janet Nabila and two others.
He ordered that the two (Mr. Dani Baah and Mr. Apasera) should hand over party belongings to the Secretary of the Party, Janet Nabila.
“NEC meeting of 28th August was not properly constituted pursuant to Article 45(3) and as such that meeting is null and void and its outcome must be treated by all with the contempt that it deserves.
“Mr. David Apasera and Moses Dani Baah are guilty of the accusations in the petition. That they are indefinitely removed from their respective offices pursuant to Article 49(a)(4) of the PNC constitution for misconducting themselves”, Seidu Suleiman noted.
According to him, “In their place, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Bal Mikankan shall act as the National Chairman and leader of the PNC”.
Reacting to this development in a press release, Mr. Moses Dani Baah urged the public to hold the meeting and its outcomes with contempt and reiterated that Janet Nabila was still suspended.
“Since the NEC meeting at which the former General Secretary was suspended, there has not been any meeting of NEC or Congress to review the decision. It is therefore preposterous for any gathering of dissatisfied party Executives to meet anywhere and take a rather void decision to indicate that the suspended General Secretary has been reinstated”, the statement said.
He added that he was the legitimate National Chairman of the party and “Mr. Bala Miankan will be impersonating if he holds himself anywhere as Acting National Chairman of the PNC.”
He also said the party would take disciplinary actions against all those involved in the act which transpired in the Ashanti Region.
