Strategy Of Dampare Hatching Positive Results-Police


The Acting Inspector General of Police, Dr. Akufo Dampare has called on some Police Regional Commanders to re-engineer their operational activities in fighting crimes in the various regions in the country to reduce cases of robbery and violent crimes.
In an interview with Citinews, the Acting Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori said regions like the Ashanti region is on course in fighting crimes.
“I can say that Ashanti, in particular led by DCOP Arful Boakye Yiadom are on course. Now they are fighting robberies in their communities seriously, Asokwa for instance, they’ve arrested some of the robbers and they are now facing the court and that is a good development. In no time, some gains have been made.”
He also noted that “countrywide, we are going to extend this kind of operation to get rid of robbery activities.”
According to him, special squads have been deployed to the Eastern and Bono East regions to undertake crime-fighting activities in some areas earmarked as hotspots.
“We have sent special squads to assist two Regional Commands in fighting robbery, both day and night robberies in those communities and the highways. They are specially tasked to get rid of that menace and here we are, the men are determined and poised to deliver. Therefore the teams there are not going solo but they are watching the personnel of the region and coordinating activities. Already they have kicked start the exercise in the Bono East region as well as the Eastern region. We’ve earmarked some areas as serious places that we are seriously engaged to make sure that we stop that canker of robbery to make sure that decent people can ply their routes without hindrance”, he said.
He further cautioned persons engaged in robbery saying, “they better back off and stop it else they will face the full wrath of the police.”
