Stop Maligning National Security Operatives; A-G to Afenyo Markin

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, has warned the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to desist from abusing his parliamentary immunity by maligning national security operatives.

At a presser on Monday, he contested claims that national security operatives raided the home of former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ernest Addison.

“He should not abuse his Parliamentary immunity by defaming public officials who are conducting normal legally sanctioned public business.”

According to him, the search was constitutional.

“We obtained warrant… So there was no raid on his house and there was nothing illegal or unconstitutional about what we did. They are deciding to bastardise me and the operatives of the National Security by even accusing the latter of theft. What an insult?”

He is willing to release a recording of the raid which contradicts the claims of the MP for Effutu Constituency.

“We have a recording of Addison and what he said about the raid. If Hon Afenyo-Markin is daring me, we will make that recording available. He should desist from maligning law enforcement officers and myself for the work that we are doing.”

The A-G emphasized his commitment to abiding by the standards of the law profession.

“He (Afenyo-Markin) should also take cognisance of the fact that I am the leader of the Bar and I will act in the best interest of the ethics of the profession. Everyone at the Bar knows me for that. I won’t do anything unethical.”

Additionally, he said an order has been issued to the EOCO and National Security to prioritise the law in conducting investigations.
