Spanish Embassy Edges Close To Establishing Spanish Department At KNUST

The Spanish Embassy in Ghana has furthered on with its intentions to establish a Spanish Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

During a visit to the Manhyia Palace, in a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, in October 2021, the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Javier Gutierrez, said his country was exploring means to augment the study of linguistics at KNUST.

“We want to explore ways to open a Spanish Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) by sending a lecturer and finding ways to promote not just the Spanish Department but also other countries that have similar language as Spanish”, he stated.

In a tweet today, the embassy announced it has launched a partnership agreement with the university on that note.

The agreement to set up the department was signed by the Ambassador, Javier Gutierres and the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson.

The Spanish Embassy tweeted, “We’ve launched a partnership with Kumasi University @KNUSTGH. The agreement signed by the Ambassador and the Vicechacellor will contribute to setting up a Spanish Department & promote cultural exchanges between & @AECID_es @InstCervantes @Casaafrica @ManhyiaPalace”.
