Sky train not coming – Amewu clarifies

The Minister of Railway Development, John Peter Amewu, has claimed that the Ghanaian government will be unable to fund the building of a Sky Train due to the project’s high costs.

Contrary to media claims, the Minister stated on Citi TV on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, that no deal on the construction of the sky railway has been signed.

“The sky train that we are talking about is the one that is going to run on columns in the sky like the ones you see in Dubai but no agreement has been signed. It is not possible to be done now. I don’t see any sky train being done in the next 3-4 years. There is not going to be any Sky train in the country. It is not possible,” he reiterated.
On the margins of the African Investment Forum in South Africa in November 2019, then-Sector Minister Joe Ghartey inked a deal for the building of the Accra SkyTrain Project.

Accra was the target of the deal, which included a total of 194 kilometers of route length.

Four of them would be radial lines that would start at the proposed SkyTrain Terminal, which would be located in the center of Accra, specifically at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Another route would have provided an intra-city commuter loop distribution service, and it would have also come from Circle.

However, Sector Minister John Peter Amewu stated that the government is unable to accomplish anything on the sky train project due to a lack of money.
