Shade Of The Past: Kum Apem WhatsApp Group Donates To Asante Kotoko Legends

WhatsApp group, Kum Apem, has yet raised the bar in an extremely impressive pleasing fashion again by donating to former players of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club amidst the outbreak of the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

At a colorful ceremony organized in Kumasi, the spiritual home of the Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC, more than ten (10) legends of the Club were given Ghc2,000 each.

The individuals who received the donation included former players Kwaku Minka, Dogo Moro, Winsdor Kofi Abbrey, Abubakar Gariba, Julius Adjabeng, Agyemang Dua, Prince Adu Poku, Kwaku Ofori, Malik Jabir, Former Kotoko driver, Nana Berchie and Former Physiotherapist, Omono Asamoah.

Speaking at a short ceremony, Patron of the Group, Dr. Daniel Owusu Ansah recounted what inspired the group and used the opportunity to call on others to help support the team.

“It is with great pleasure I stand before this august gathering to honor our past players and workers who selflessly served Asante Kotoko. The decision for this breathtaking program came as a result of identifying what most of our legends are going through, and we decided on the platform to contribute at least our widow’s mite to relieve them from their afflictions.”

“We will continue to support our team as we are supposed to, however, we call on others who have got the wherewithal to come on board to support the group as well as the team.”

The heartwarming occasion was graced by National Sports Authority Board Chairman, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, Former Black Stars Coach, James Akwasi Appiah, Wilberforce Mfum, Yussif Alhassan Chibsah, Ashanti Regional Youth Employment Director, Seth Twumasi, and representatives from Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

Others include Acting Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko SC, Joseph Yaw Adu, Captain of Asante Kotoko, Felix Annan, National Circles Council 1st Vice Chairman, Nana Kwame Dankwah.

Supporters’ mother body, National Circles Council and Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly supported the group with Ghc5000 and Ghc3000 respectively.

The group previously had donated a Banner and set of drums for Porcupine Tertiary, the tertiary students supporters wing of Krobea Asante Kotoko SC.

They again paid Ghc4,100 when Asante Kotoko was banned in the 2019/20 season.

Their last donation before this program was given to Kwame Arhin, a supporter who was paralyzed after taken off, what is perceived to be black powers, from the goalposts of Asec Mimosa in the 1991 CAF Champions League.
