Scholarship Registrar whips Mahama for abandoning students

The Registrar at the Scholarship Secretariat, Mr. Kingsley Agyemang has castigated the erswhile John Mahama administration over its handling of scholarship when they were in government from the year 2012 to 2016.
“Hitherto, you only hear of the Scholarship Secretariat when Ghanaian students were abandoned by the erswhile Mahama administration; students were abandoned in Cuba, Russia, China and all over the world to the extent that Ghana was blacklisted from countries that we were in good standing with because we were not able to take good care of our students”, he recounts.
According to Mr. Agyemang, former President John Mahama who hails from Northern Region saw nothing satisfactory to prioritize the education of the students from Northern Regions to the extent that Senior High Schools and other tertiary institutions had to chase the Scholarship Secretariat for unpaid fees of students.
“It could go a whole year and the feeding fee of students in the Northern Regions with about 146 Senior High Schools could attend school and their fees had not been paid for”, the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat revealed during a press briefing in Kumasi.
According to him, since Ghanaians went to the polls to elect President Akufo-Addo in 2016 and he took the reigns of office, problems of paying students scholarships have been resolved once and for all.
“Ever since Ghanaians had confidence in Akufo-Addo and elected Akufo-Addo government into power we never heard of these things. All scholarship outstanding arrears have been paid” Mr. Agyemang said as the Secretariat gets ready to interview 2020/21 scholarship applicants.
According to Mr. Kingsley Agyemang, government has designated ¢80,000,000 aiming to cover all qualified applicants for 2020/21 academic year.
