Sammy Gyamfi To Challenge Compulsory KIA Vaccination In Court

Private Legal Practitioner Sammy Gyamfi has announced his intention to fight the compulsory vaccination rule introduced by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) for travellers at the Kotoka International airport.

The GHS announced all unvaccinated Ghanaians outside the country and intending to return within 14 days from midnight of 12th December 2021 would be vaccinated on arrival at the airport. While all Ghanaians travelling out of the country are to be fully vaccinated effective midnight.

Reacting to this, Sammy Gyamfi alluded that the new rule is a violation of Human rights, describing it as “reprehensible” and “madness”.

In a Facebook post, he noted that vaccination must be a choice rather than compulsory.

“Vaccination must be by choice and not by force. The imposition of compulsory COVID vaccination requirement on all Ghanaians travelling into and out of Ghana by the Ghana Health Service is reprehensible and an affront to the 1992 Constitution.

“And some of us are determined to fight this madness through every available legal means no matter the cost or stigma”, he said.

But Director General at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye said that “the current increase in cases together with the detection of the Omicron variant among international arrivals and the expected increase during the festive season called for urgent actions to prevent a major surge in COVID-19 cases in Ghana.”

He posted: Vaccination must be by choice and not by force. The imposition of compulsory COVID vaccination requirement on all Ghanaians travelling into and out of Ghana by the Ghana Health Service is reprehensible and an affront to the 1992 Constitution. And some of us are determined to fight this madness through every available legal means no matter the cost or stigma.
