Rev Osei Kofi: Substandard League Affecting Black Stars

Ghana’s soccer Legend Rev. Osei Kofi has said the poor run of the Black Stars is the result of Ghana Premier League.
According to the man touted as one of the greatest footballers Ghana has ever produced, Black Stars performance is dwindling because the local league is substandard.
The Black Stars failed to pick at least a point against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after beating Ethiopia by 1-0 days ago in Cape Coast.
The performance from the two matches look lackluster and Ghanaians have questioned the tactics and wherewithal of Black Stars gaffer Charles Kwabla Akonnor.
Though Rev. Osei Kofi believes Akonnor is full of tactical inadequacies which cannot help Ghana, he wants the Ghana Football Association to raise the standard of the local League.
Expressing his opinion about the performance of the Black Stars on Opemsuo Radio evening sports show, Pramaso, he said, “Ghana is not performing well because the powers that be has failed to raise the standard of the Ghana Premier League. Now the League lacks competitiveness which can produce top talents for the Black Stars.”
He continued, “Those days, the local league was the backbone of the Black Stars, but what do we see now. If we continue to lower the standard of the league, then we should forget about the Black Stars.”

He reckoned that the Black Stars coach lacks the ability to man such a portfolio, and it will be difficult to see changes anytime soon in the senior national team.
“C. K. Akonnor cannot coach Black Stars. He is not cut for it. Ghana needs top-notch coaches who understand the dynamics of the game to help our national team,” he stressed.
South Africa is currently leading the Group G with four points, while Ghana sit at the second position with three points.
