Prove That You Are With Us: Ukraine To EU
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has challenged the European Union to practice its words to prove that it indeed stands by Ukraine amidst this trying moment.
Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, unions and countries have declared support for Ukraine and condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine which has entered its sixth (6th) day.
Zelensky challenged the EU to let light reign over darkness.
“Do prove that you are with us. Do prove that you will not let us down. Do prove that you are indeed European and then life will win over death and light will win over darkness.”
His emotional speech, while addressing the EU parliamentarians in Brussels via video link from Kyiv, comes on the back of the Ukrainian application to be admitted as a member of the EU.
The speech garnered a long-standing ovation and applause from all his audience at the end.
In his address, Zelensky noted that the European Union is going to be much stronger with Ukraine, however, if the EU rejects the application, Ukraine will be alone.
“We are fighting, also to be equal members of Europe. We believe that today, we are showing everybody that that’s exactly what we are. Yet the European Union is going to be much stronger with us, that’s for sure. Without you, Ukraine is going to be lonely. We have proven our strength. We have proven that at the minimum. “
He told representatives of the 27 EU member states that the strength of the Ukrainians lies in the desire to “see our children alive”.
Yesterday, he said, a cruise missile struck the country’s largest park, Killing 16 children.
