President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo Calls For Peace In Nigeria

The President of the Republic of Ghana has issued a statement following a disturbing incident in Nigeria between the Police and Citizens.

Demonstrators have taken part in daily protests across the country for nearly two weeks over widespread claims of kidnapping, harassment, and extortion by a police unit known as the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Tuesday saw the state governor impose a 24-hour curfew and the deployment of anti-riot police to the city.

The President of Ghana who is also the Chairman for ECOWAS has used his social media handles to call for calmness between the two parties for an amicable settlement of the issue in Nigeria.

Read the full statement;

“I join all well-meaning persons in calling for calm, and the use of dialogue in resolving the #EndSARS impasse in Nigeria. I have spoken with President Buhari, who is committed to this end, and has begun the processes that will lead to reform. Violence, be it on the part of the Police or protesters, cannot be the solution. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I express my sincere condolences, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
