President, 23 others were gov’t delegates to COP26 – Eugene Arhin

The Director of Communication at the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin has debunked claims that the government of Ghana funded the trip of 337 Ghanaian delegates to the Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland.

He noted that out of the vast number of Ghanaians that reflected on the United Nation’s provisional lists of registered participants, only 24 were part of the government of Ghana’s delegation to the summit.

“The official presidential delegation comprised 24 persons including the president, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Minister for Energy, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as officials of the presidency and Foreign Ministry.”

He explained that there were three categories of persons who were permitted to attend COP26 which included; United Nations and its related organizations and agencies; media and non-profit organizations with observer status and representatives of parties to the conventions of observer states.

He reiterated that not all those whose names reflected on the list of registered participants made it to the summit.

However, he added, “There were media personalities as well as reps from CSOs who were captured on the list of 337 persons who have also confirmed that their trip to Glasgow was not funded by the government”, he said.
