MPs’ Salary Arrears: Tony Aidoo obstructed processes; hid document from Mills- Kyei Mensa Bonsu cries

“Both MPs from Majority and Minority sides we formed a committee on the matter. Dr. Tony Aidoo at the time came to me [ Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu] for the Committee’s reports. I thought as a Minority at the time he was going to present our case to the President Mills but he never came back to us. I also didn’t get back the report he took from me”, current Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah revealed on Opemsuo morning.
“It was a big mistake on my part I did not bother to make copies from the original document I gave it to Dr. Aidoo”, the astute politician bemoaned when he spoke to host, George Opoku Mensah during telephone conversation on the “Nkwantanan” show.
The Forum for Former Members of Parliament(FFMP) in their letter to, the Chief of Staff, Frema Opera Osei demanded that in consonance with the principle of fairness and equity, “it is only appropriate to humbly request of you to consider the payment of arrears of salaries/emoluments to Members of the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic (i.e. 2005 to 2009)”.
Asked why this time, for the MPs to demand the arrears from the current New Patrotic Party (NPP) government, the Minister of Parlimentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah explained the payment could have been done long-time without some unseen hands which obstructed the processes during late President Mills’ regime.
“If you ask me, why we are demanding the monies today, I will tell you that because the previous government did give us his attention”, the NPP lawmaker for Suame in Kumasi stated adding: ” it is not about NPP or NDC”
The list of MPs demanding salary arrears includes the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo whose grand total arrears is GH¢152, 336.05. Former President J.A. Kufuor is also demanding GH¢226,251.98 as grand total
Some current Ministers of State among those making the demands include Joe Ghartey, Gloria Akuffo, Albert Kan-Dapaa, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Boniface Abu-Bakar Saddique, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, and Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
