Police Invite A-Plus Over Ahmed Suale Murder
The Ghana Police Service has extended an invitation to retired Hip-life musician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus after claiming he holds some information about the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.
The invitation was extended on July 15, 2024, the police disclosed in a press statement.
“The Ghana Police Service has today, 15th July 2024, invited Mr Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, to assist the Police’s ongoing investigation into the death of Ahmed Suale, following his recent claims on social media that he has some information regarding the case.”
It noted that the Cold Case Unit established in October 2021, under the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Service is handling this murder case and many others of this nature and thereby pleased to have a fresh lead to conclude the probe.
“The Police is therefore pleased that Mr Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) has made an indication that he has some information that could assist the ongoing investigation, and he has been invited accordingly”.
Background
In a Facebook live broadcast on Sunday, A Plus asserted that he holds some useful information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of the former Tiger PI worker who was killed in 2019 and until now has the puzzle of his murder still in disarray.
According to him, it will take the provision of a security detail to get him to spill what he knows. This is because he has no trust in the police service anymore.
He is willing to resist all efforts to coerce him into speaking until he is given the needed protection.
“If the police call me to give information, I will take them to court for them to give me protection before I give them any information. I know this street, Kwame A Plus is not an ordinary person. I will give you anything you want but you will have to protect me. Anything less than that don’t call me.”
Justifying his stance, he recounted how a police officer gave him away after assisting with some information a few years ago.
“About two or three years ago, I got a hint that police had gone to kill five people around Gomoa Fetteh. This went viral. News articles reported that the five were killed by the police after they attempted to attack a chief in Gomoah Fetteh.
“Two suspects survived. After two weeks I got all the details and evidence about the incident and sent it to the IGP and told him this was a clear case of murder. I held a meeting with the IGP and the CID boss, Kan Yeboah at the time. After everything, ten minutes later, I received a call from the one who set the five up to be killed.”
Death
Ahmed was murdered a few months later in his car around his neighbourhood while on his way home on January 16, 2019, by unidentified men on motorbikes.
He sustained three gunshots- two in his chest and one in his neck.
This was a few months after Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong through a TV broadcast unmasked him as the face behind the Number 12 investigative piece- which uncovered gross corruption in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in 2018- on his television station, NET 2 TV.
He also incited the public against Ahmed.
“Slap him, in fact, beat him, anything that happens I will pay,” Kennedy said in the viral video.
