“Police Have Not Escorted Fertilizers To Burkina”- Police

The Upper East Regional Police Command has said it is “considering options available to procedurally hold the Herald Newspaper accountable over a false publication.”
The Herald Newspaper on 19th July, 2021 published an article stating that the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Alex Dzabaku Amenyah , had led an escort of some subsidized Planting for Food and Jobs fertilizers to Burkina Faso.
This report came in after farmers from the northern part of the country complained of shortages of these fertilizers as the time for their application on farms were elapsing.
The Upper East Police Commander however, in a statement sighted by opemsuo.com said the publication is false.
“The Command denies the publication, it is false, malicious and calculated to tarnish the image of the Police Service. The police have not escorted any truck across any border in the region.”
According to the police, in its passionate ways of combating fertilizer smuggling in the region, REGSEC has instituted a ban on night movement of fertilizer trucks.
“It must be noted that the first point of call of fertilizer trucks in the region is Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional capital for cross checking and clearance by the Regional Agricultural Director and Regional Coordinating Council, after which they are escorted during the day to their respective districts”, the statement noted.
