Plastic Manufacturers Announce Protest Over 5% Tax Imposition

Plastic manufacturers have served notice about plans to embark on a protest in the country’s capital city next week.

The groups include the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers and the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana.

The groups in a joint notice to the Ghana Police Service said they will be spilling their frustrations and anger over the imposition of 5% taxes imposed on all plastic manufactured products by the government.

“GPMA in collaboration with its partners i.e. the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers and the Plastic Sellers Association of Ghana wishes to inform you of our intention to embark on a joint peaceful and lawful demonstration on the imposition of 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products.”

The protest will take place on July 10, 2024.

Protesters will converge at the Obra Spot and then march through the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to the Farisco Traffic Lights – Accra Technical University – Liberia Road and then end at the Ministries.
