OSP Publishes Half-Year Report

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has published its half-year report.

In the report, the Office enumerated all its work and achievements so far.

It noted that the Office now occupies a ten-storey building at 6 Haile Selassie Avenue at South Ridge in Accra; has an official website – www.osp.gov.gh – to interface with the public; two social media handles on Facebook@ https://www.facebook.com/ospghana and on Twitter @ https://twitter.com/ospghana; has partnership with traditional media outlets including television, radio stations and news printers, and has also developed a social media anti-corruption campaign.

Additionally, it has established a toll-free line – 0800-000-700 – for the reporting of corruption and the filing of complaints; and has initiated corruption prevention drive under the headline – “Pressure-for-Progress”.

Currently, the OSP reports that it has three cases pending in court including: Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga and another accused of the abuse of public office for private gain; Former PPA Boss, Adjenim Boateng Adjei and Another accused of use of public office for profit; and former MCE for Juaben, Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka accused of corruption in respect of a public election.

Additionally, the OSP said three different investigations have been concluded with two of them terminated.

The first of the three investigated cases was Agri-Plus Horizon Farms Limited which was reported for investigation on grounds of nepotism and/or trade-based money laundering but the case got terminated after it was established that the suspected nepotism was a case of mere coincidence of names and/or mistaken identity in February 2022.

The second case was referred to the OSP against the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South for an alleged financial malfeasance but the case was terminated for lack of evidence in July 2022.

The last case involved the issuance of an unlawful customs advance ruling to Labianca Company, a company owned by a Council of State member, by the Deputy Commissioner for Customs in charge of operations, Mr. Joseph Adu Kyei. The OSP says it has retrieved more than one million cedis in shortfalls from the company.

Currently, the OSP says it is investigating over 70 cases including Airbus SE for the sale and purchase of military aircrafts for the Republic; Banking and Financial Sector Crisis; Recruitment to Cadet Officers Training at the Ghana Police Academy; Estate of Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie alias Sir John; and Northern Development Authority.
