NPP Summons Chairman Wontumi Over Bawumia Endorsement

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has summoned the Ashanti regional chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako for openly endorsing and declaring his support for Bawumia as the party’s presidential aspirant.

Antwi Boasiako who is affectionately called Chairman Wontumi made the statement during the Vice President’s visit to Effiduase Asokore to commission a six-unit classroom block.

He said, “the NPP belongs to polling station agents, coordinators, and constituency executives; if all these people are saying they want Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP, then whom am I to say no?”

Chairman Wontumi added, “the delegates gave me the regional chairmanship position to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia”.

The conduct of Chairman Wontumi has been condemned by the party in a press statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

“The attention of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been drawn to a video in circulation, in which Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, openly endorsed one of the party’s presidential hopefuls”.

Justin Kodua noted that he has engaged the regional chairman to desist from such acts.

“The General Secretary subsequently extended an invitation to Mr. Antwi Boasiako and engaged him on the need for officers of the party at all levels, to desist from such conduct”.

This is not the first time Chairman Wontumi has declared support for a candidate of the party. He declared his support to John Boadu, the immediate past General Secretary of the NPP over Justin Kodua in the recent primaries of the party.
