NPP Reacts TO EIU Report On 2024 Election

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reacted to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) report that it has no chance of winning the 2024 general elections, labelling it as exciting.

“This report, for me, is exciting as far as they have introduced the new element into the whole situation, which is the element of leadership, the quality of leadership”, Director of Communications for the NPP, Yaw Boaben Asamoah said.

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News, monitored by opemsuo.com, he said his party does not dispute the EIU due to the niche it has carved for itself when it comes to political analysis.

However, he touched on the aspect of its analysis criteria noting that it was based on the 8years cycle perception.

“The larger analysis hinges on the 8 years cycle because the President is not running again, and usually after 8years, there’s a turnover, the likely of a turnover is high, they then support this with the three elements that go into politics: employment generation, infrastructure, and anti-corruption and other factors impacting the economy”.

Boaben Asamoah held that the significant part of the EIU report is that with former President John Mahama, all the achievements the NPP government has made could go down the drain.

He believes however that his party can “Break the 8” if electorates go to the polls guided by the leadership and record of the NPP.

“The next parliamentary and presidential elections are due in 2024. Under constitutionally mandated term limits, the incumbent president, Mr Akufo-Addo, cannot run for a third term. The former president, John Mahama, is reportedly considering running again, but we expect the opposition NDC to try to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate.

“Our baseline forecast is that ongoing public dissatisfaction with the slow pace of improvements in governance—such as infrastructure development, job creation and easing of corruption—will trigger anti-incumbency factors and push the electorate to seek a change. The NDC, therefore, stands a reasonable chance of winning the 2024 elections”, the EIU report said.
