Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Community Reading Challenge Commences Today
The Preliminary round of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Community Reading Challenge starts today at Bantama in Kumasi.
Over seven thousand five-hundred and ninety-one (7,591) children have registered thus far to take part in the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge in more than sixty communities in Kumasi.
The reading challenge is one of the educative platforms that has been laid by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation for children to learn aside the normal instructional hours in schools.
The systematic and conscious measures being put in place stem from the fact that reading plays a major role in education.
Students who are able to read and comprehend the text they have read mostly perform well during examination.
A child’s reading skills are important to their success in school as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and language skills. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them.
The epic competition will be in two phases which include English reading as well as Twi reading.
The educative competition is engineered towards promoting English and Twi reading among Junior High school students in Kumasi.
