Kejetia Market Women Express Sorrow Over Bills From KMA

Market women at Kejetia in Kumasi, Ashanti Regional capital, are lamenting over bills from Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) demanding from them to pay exorbitant fees.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has tasked Kejetia traders to pay for Electricity bill, Security, Cleaning and others to keep the place safe for usage.

However, the traders describe the action as an unfair deal since they were not given prior notice before the charges were imposed on them.

According to some market women interviewed on Opemsuo 104.7 FM morning show, Nkwatananso, hosted by George Opoku Mensah otherwise known as Agudey, recounted that the Authorities are not being fair to them especially in the era of COVID-19 pandemic where businesses are not doing well. “It is ridiculous how the Authorities are dealing with us regarding collection of monies in these abnormal times.”

Another interviewee also disclosed that they were expecting the Authorities to dialogue with them before the issuance of those bills but unfortunately it didn’t happen that way.
“We were expecting the Authorities to dialogue with us before the bills for us to be mindful of it so that we will prepare for it, but it just came to us as a surprise which was not proper. What is incomprehensible is the portion of light bill because most of us are using solar.”

Other traders also called on the appropriate Authorities to dialogue with them to find a suitable avenue to resolve the situation amicably to end any tussle.

The traders were earlier on tasked to pay Ghc50 until the latest development which comes with additional cost.
