Agent Of Peace: Asantehene Calls For Peaceful Election

Highly revered King, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has admonished politicians in Ghana for the continuum of peaceful elections ahead of 2020 General Elections.

Millions of Ghanaians will go to the polls again on December 7, 2020 following the expiration of the mandatory four years of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo as the President of Ghana in the most sacred of all democracy’s rituals, to elect a new leader.

This is the first in the history of Ghana whereby a former President is contesting a sitting President. Interest will definitely be heightened in such an atmosphere clouded with ‘ do or die’ disposition from the two main political parties, NPP and NDC.

And Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose faultless unique role for the peace and harmony of Ghana has been unmatched, thus far, has called with clarion voice on politicians to safeguard the peaceful atmosphere we have been enjoying over the years.

Addressing NDC delegation at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, led by former President His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the overlord of Asante Kingdom minced no words in telling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties about their responsibility to protect the peace of this country before, during and after the General elections.

“Don’t take satisfaction in politics of insults which has the tendency to endanger the lives of Ghanaians and our peaceful atmosphere.”

Asantehene Opemsuo Osei Tutu Ababio also advised that campaign messages should be issue-based where values, principles, ideologies, policies and issues of the day will be featured -rather than using derogatory remarks against opponents.
“You are now telling Ghanaians what you did likewise the ruling party. I want you to maintain issue-based politics to let Ghanaians decide which party will assuage their burdens. Tell Ghanaians what you would want to do when the nod is given to you again not the usual insults.”

The delegation was at the Palace to introduce Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, running mate to John Mahama for the 2020 elections.
