Albert Arhin Justifies Action Of EC.

The National Coordinator for Coalition of Democratic Election Observers (CODEO), Mr Albert Arhin has justified the disqualification of about 30,000 persons from the voter’s register by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

In an interview on Opemsuo FM morning show, Nkwantananso, hosted by Goerge Opoku Mensah, he stated that the disqualified lists consist of multiple and exception lists.

” The voter’s register is made up of multiple list which signifies that you have registered more than once and there is the exception list which also signifies that you misconducted yourself…this calls for a punishment which is: your name will be taken out of the register.”

He also explained that the Electoral Commission has the Adjudication Committee which is made up of various stakeholders who deliberated on the lists before such a decision was taken.

“There is a Review Committee which compiles the list of people who are challenged, the list is presented to the Adjudication Committee which comprises of political parties, NGOs and CSOs go through each of the cases, then they take a decision on them.”

For the double registration which was detected in the voter’s register, Mr. Arhin explained detection cannot be done at polling stations during registration but only after the registration during the matching stage.

He however, insisted that no one can undertake multiple voting on the election day.
