NCA: Over 13Million Now On New SIM Register
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced that the number of persons who have undertaken the SIM registration exercise has exceeded thirteen million.
In a notice, the NCA revealed that 13, 245, 392 have completed the SIM registration exercise.
Additionally, those who have completed just the first phase of the exercise are 16, 057, 212.
The figures reflect the total number of registration from October 1, 2021, to May 27, 2022.
The registration exercise was met with a lot of challenges at the onset which led to the emergence of a group boycotting the exercise and calling for more appropriate means of registering.
The exercise was initially scheduled to end in March this year after it began in October 2021 but was extended to July 31, 2022, when the March deadline was due.
At an event yesterday, the Minister for Communication and Digitization, Ursula Owusu Erkuful, noted that the deadline will not be extended at the end of July.
The NCA has threatened to deactivate all SIM cards that do not get registered at the end of July.
