National Standard Test Interrupts Vacation Date For Basic Schools

The Ghana Education Service has announced the maiden edition of the National Standard Test (NST) for Primary 4 pupils will take place next Friday, December 17, 2021.

As a result of this public basic schools will have their vacation date extended for a week. The students had their vacation date scheduled for Friday, December 10, 2021.

A move GES says it will make up for.

The announcement was made in a Facebook post on Monday, December 6.

It posted, “National Standardised Test for P4 will be written on the 17th of December 2021. As a result, all Basic schools will vacate on the 17th of December 2021. GES will make up for the lost vacation period in the next academic calendar.”

The new national examination will be sat by 561,595 Primary 4 Public School pupils from 15,911 schools and across some 2,609 Examination centers.

Averagely, there will be 200 pupils per center.

The National Standard Test was announced by the sector minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adwutwum after he took over the office of the Ministry for Education.

The test will become the second national examination in addition to the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The test which is a means of building a robust educational system will also assess the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values as part of pre-tertiary education curriculum.

NST is meant to ensure that students achieve the desired proficiency in literacy and numeracy.

Dr. Adwutwum in a speech on the NST said, “The basic four pupils would be the first batch to undergo the novelty test this year. The test would not only improve learning outcomes but also reduce learning poverty across the country. It wouldn’t be beneficial for pupils to wait for 11years before their first national examination, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which makes it difficult to rectify literacy and numeracy challenges”.
