Economic Crisis: Closing Of Shops A Way To Make Our Displeasures Known – GUTA To Gov’t

The Ghana Union of Traders Association has threatened to close shops on Monday, August 29, 2022, in Accra over the hardship trading system erupting from the ill economy under the Akufo-Addo led government.

Speaking on Opemsuo Radio’s morning show with Agudey, the Co-Chairman for Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers and First Vice Chairman of GUTA, Mr. Clement Boateng said, the closing of shops on Monday is a way of making their grievances known to the government sending a signal of sitting up to fix the situation.

According to him, the ill economic situation is creating so much tension in the trading industry as the government has totally failed to implement the Investment Laws. He stated that foreign investors are made to take all their profits back to their home countries which often limits the volume of money circulating in the system, therefore calling on the government to restrict this action for reinvestment.

He also called on the government to restrict the volume of foreign products investors import for their Supermarkets and Shopping Malls to at least 40% local products.

He, therefore, called on clients and customers to bear with GUTA for the inconveniences their action shall cause on Monday as a result of the shop closure as the result shall benefit everybody.
