NADMO Blames KMA For Flooding In Ashanti Region.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinator for National Disaster Management Organization, Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire has pointed fingers at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the severe flooding caused in the region during and after every downpour.
In an interview, Mr. Nsenkyire said the flood is caused by buildings erected in waterways.
“We don’t have the mandate to stop somebody from encroaching the wet land, we don’t have the mandate to stop somebody from building in waterway.
“All that we have to do when we identify a structure in waterway is to call on the authorities, that is KMA or the Municipal/District Assemblies for them to confirm the permit.”
He said K.M.A is responsible for giving permit to people to erect or encroach such lands.
“The body that allows them is the same body NADMO has to report to”, he stressed.
