MoI: Wednesday Is A Holiday

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded Ghanaians that Wednesday, September 21, 2022, is a statutory holiday.

The day marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.

In a brief statement, the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery said, “The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 21st September 2022 which marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country”.

It marks the birthday of Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President.

It was initially celebrated as “Founder’s Day” each year until President Akufo-Addo caused an amendment to be made.

Now the country celebrates “Founders’ Day”, which commemorates the “Big Six” who played various roles in the fight for independence for Ghana on August 4 each year, with September 21 earmarked to remember Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
