Ministry of Communication To Launch Self-Service Registration App For SIM Registration
The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation will tomorrow, August 2, 2022 launch the Self-Service Registration Application to enable Ghanaians to register their SIM cards in the comfort of their homes without having to queue or go to any network operator.
The Ministry cites the delay in the completion of the app as one of the factors bedevilling the SIM registration exercise underway in the country.
“The virtual private network connectivity and API with all MNOs was only completed this weekend due to unavoidable circumstances”, the Ministry relayed at a press conference.
According to the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, the application will be available to IOS and Android users within this week, however, adequate time will also be needed for publicity and public education on the use of the App.
SIM registration by the App, she indicated, will cost a GHc5 surcharge.
She noted that non-resident Ghanaians without the Ghana Card can use their passports to complete the registration via the App but will have to update once they get the Ghana Card and they have up to December 2022 to do so.
That notwithstanding, she said Ghanaians on official duties outside the country and students on scholarship outside the country must contact the NCA if they cannot get the Ghana Card by December.
