Microphone Snatched From E-levy Critic At Gov’t Townhall Meeting

The Government town hall meeting on the Electronic Transactions Levy at the Sekondi Youth Centre in the Western Region today was characterised by a brief drama during the question time.

One of the questioners whose submissions clearly indicated that he was against the policy, had the microphone taken away from him while making his point.

The E-levy critic was of the view that the President should rather cut his “profligate spending” and reduce the size of his ministers rather than introduce the levy.

He alluded to the president’s trip to Europe by a luxurious jet last year while making submissions.

His submission was initially interrupted by the Deputy Information Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar, who seemed visibly uncomfortable as she told the critic, “Be specific with your question. When you say profligate spending, it is vague”.

The microphone was eventually snatched away by one who was later referred to as Mr. Basty by the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Suddenly the auditorium was characterised by upheaval.

The minister called for calm and then ordered the Basty guy to relocate the microphone.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan, and Member of Parliament for Secondi Andrew Egyapa Mercer were the speakers at the gathering.
