Methodist Church: Don’t Associate Our Church With Comment Of Rev Stephen Ayensu

The Methodist Church of Ghana has dissociated itself from the comments made by the Past Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev Stephen Bosomtwe Ayensu concerning the intentions of former President Mahama to scrap the E-levy upon assumption of power once again.

Rev Ayensu at a presser in Obuasi in the course of the 25th Synod of the Methodist Church at the Mount Zion Methodist Church defended the Akufo-Addo-led government’s e-levy policy and chided the former president for some submissions he made on the government’s policy.

A statement dated May 10, released by the Public Relations Directorate of the church and sighted by opemsuo.com noted that the official mouthpiece of the church isn’t Rev Ayensu, rather, it’s Presiding Bishop.

“We, therefore, appeal to our noble friends of the media not to draw the name of the Methodist Church of Ghana into the alleged statements made by the past Bishop”.

It added that the Church is unaligned with any of the political parties in the country however, its Ministers and members have the freedom to make comments as citizens that cannot be taken as the official position of the church.
