“March For Justice” In Progress
Over two thousand have massed up at the Accra Mall to partake in the demonstration organized by the National Democratic Congress.
Demonstrators are clad in black and red clothes with placards which reads, “Akufo-Addo is using our money to bath in the sky; Nipa ny3”, “Fix the country; Y’abr3.”
“No justice for the dead, no peace”, “We need Justice”, “End police brutality”, “End killing of Zongos”, ‘Akufo-Addo is a dictator’, etc.
Almost all the demonstrators have masked up as they agreed with the Inspector General of Police.
Among the leadership of the NDC present at the event are Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of NDC, Honourable Sam George, MP for Ningo Prampram, Honourable Atto Forson, Fiifi Kwetey, and other leading members of the NDC.
Reports available to Opemsuo radio indicates that about five hundred security personnel have been deployed to escort the demonstrators.
The NDC has said there are some military personnel deployed along with the police to the event.
According to Honourable Sam George the agreement between the organizers of the event and the Ghana Police Service did not feature the presence of the military in the protest.
“The military has been a tool for crowd control, the military is never been meant for crowd control. We have had no consultatioms with the military. We had made the agreement with the Police even on the side of the road to use, where to make the turns and everything, so why bring in the military? The military is meant for backup when the Police themselves call for them”, Sam George addressed the media.
The National Democratic Congress organized the protest to campaign against security brutality in the country as well as several other policies of the Akufo-Addo led government.
“The route for the March is the green park opposite the Accra Mall through Opeibea Traffic Intersection to AFGO junction through Aviation Social Centre to the Land Commission Traffic Light through Christ the King Catholic Church to Jubilee House through AU roundabout and finally end at the Parliament House”, according to a release from the Ghana Police Service.
